Chanel Perspex Briefcase
10 March 2009

This week in Paris, Karl Lagerfeld presented a poised, elegant and mostly black take on power suiting for Chanel that included this fantastically witty take on the working gal's briefcase. We hope that it's not just a prop for the catwalk. We're sure someone out there could pull it off in the real world. It's highly functional, after all.

Chanel's Extraordinary Stage Set
05 July 2008

Karl Largerfeld never puts a pedicured foot wrong and his presentation for Chanel at this week’s Couture shows proves that he is still one of the most innovative and creative minds on the planet. Largerfeld unveiled his collection amid an extraordinary 50-foot set made up of steel-grey tubes inspired by organ pipes. Lagerfeld worked the tubes theme into the collection, showing tubular shapes in several different manifestations.

Lagerfeld is one of the masters of catwalk theatrics, dreaming up incredible larger-than life sets that seem to get more elaborate each season. For some of the best of recent shows check out Runaway Runway Success. - Lisa Evans

2008 Haute Couture Collection — Paris Fashion Week
30 June 2008

Haute couture is a dying art – one which needs protecting like an endangered species. The craftsmanship, extreme attention to detail and often hand-executed techniques allow the body to become a canvas as the designer sculpts, manipulates and creates. This is why when the bi-annual Haute Couture collections are featured in Paris, the fever pitch by fashionistas is felt across the globe.

For Autumn Winter 08-09, silhouettes and proportions were challenged as death defying ruffles at Dior showcased the flamboyance and showmanship we have come to expect from Galliano.

The return of the wasp waist featured heavily where draping, wrapping and peplums scattered the catwalk with sheer dip-dyed voluminous dresses adding an ethereal feel to the week. Christian Lacroix, Jean Paul Gaultier and Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel were also among the catwalk highlights with a total of 23 couturiers showing on the official schedule.  -  Kate Vandermeer
